Anthracite is a form of coal that has been exposed to high pressure and temperature. Anthracite is formed when coal is compressed even further. Coal, meanwhile, has been subjected to higher temperatures and pressures than lignite. Anthracite has a high carbon content and volatile components.

It can be used as an energy or carbon carrier in various industrial applications.
